What if the offer is a hormone treatment?

Hormone is a word for a body signal. Ask which medicine the offer names and what health problem it would treat.

Do not group all hormone offers together

Ask for the substance name, the condition being treated, and the reason it fits. If the word hormone is the only answer, ask the person to name the medicine.

If the medicine is called testosterone

Testosterone is a medicine name you may see in a hormone-treatment offer. Ask: Which health problem of mine is this meant to treat? How would you check that I need it?

As of September 2026, testosterone is a controlled substance under federal law.

A controlled substance is a drug the government tracks more closely because it can be misused.

As of September 2026, a temporary federal rule allows certain controlled-drug telehealth prescribing without a prior in-person exam through December 31, 2026.

The temporary rule requires a proper medical reason, a prescriber with the required federal permission, and an interactive system generally using live video and sound.

State rules and other federal prescribing requirements still apply; this is not blanket permission to prescribe from a form or a phone call alone.

Telehealth means care over a screen or another remote exchange. Ask which rule the service relies on and what happens when that rule changes.

Growth hormone has a different federal limit

Human growth hormone medicines may be named somatropin or somatrem, and offers may use the short name HGH.

As of September 2026, federal law makes distributing human growth hormone for anti-ageing or bodybuilding a crime.

Check the exact medicine name on the offer. Ask which medical condition it would treat and why it is proposed for you. A promise about ageing alone leaves those questions unanswered.

Ask for a plan to stay in touch

Who will explain test results? Who will discuss changes? How will your usual clinician hear about the plan? Keep these questions beside the substance name, so the conversation stays about care.
