What does online care involve?

A form can begin a conversation. Ask how the conversation continues.

Prepare what you want to discuss

Keep your medicine names, past records, and main question nearby. Ask whether the visit is a live call or an exchange of messages. Ask when you can expect a reply.

Look for room to ask back

The Federation of State Medical Boards uses the initials FSMB; this group advises state offices responsible for licensing doctors.

A patient’s selection from a treatment menu is insufficient on its own for prescribing under FSMB guidance as of September 2026.

That guidance also calls for patients to be able to contact their clinician with questions later.

These are recommendations for state boards. Each state decides which rules it can enforce; the recommendations alone do not guarantee how a service will care for you.

Before paying, ask: How will you check my health concern before prescribing? How can I ask my own questions? Which state rules cover this visit?

Your state matters during the visit

According to HHS, clinicians must have permission to practise in the state their patient is physically in, as of September 2026.

The initials HHS stand for Department of Health and Human Services, a US department. Let the service know your location for the visit, especially when travelling.

Ask about the step after assessment

When a patient needs further assessment, FSMB policy calls for the necessary tests to be arranged or the patient to be referred.

Ask who explains results, who replies to a medicine question, and whether another visit costs extra. Keep those answers with the fee terms.
