# Which kind of visit fits my question?

Compare the arrangements, then ask how an assessment would work for you.

## Start with what needs to be understood

Do you want to talk through a medicine, review records, or discuss a concern that needs an examination? Tell the service that before you choose a visit type.

## Compare the care routes

Online care

### Care begins in an online exchange

Ask whether you will have a live call or send information for a later reply.

Checking your concern

How will you use my answers and records to check my health concern before prescribing?

Tests or an exam

If more information is needed, who arranges the next step?

Your location

Can this clinician provide care in the state where I will be?

Later questions

Who replies after the visit, and how do I reach them?

The bill

Is the care fee a visit charge or a recurring membership?

In-person care

### Care begins with a visit in a room

Ask who you will see and what the assessment will include.

Checking your concern

How will you examine me and review my records to check my health concern?

Tests or an exam

What question would each test or examination answer?

Your records

Can I bring past results, and who will review them?

Later questions

How are results and later check-ins handled?

The bill

Which services are included, and which are charged separately?

## The screen does not lower the care standard

The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) advises the state offices that license doctors.

FSMB policy holds telehealth care to the same care and ethics standard as a visit in person.

Its policy calls for tests to be arranged, or for a referral to an in-person visit, when the assessment requires those steps.

This is advice to state boards. A state decides which rules it has authority to enforce. Ask the service how it would check your health concern and arrange an examination if needed.

## Ask how the route can change

If a screen visit cannot answer the question, who arranges the next step? If an in-person visit leads to later online check-ins, who handles them? Ask about both before paying.
